This is an Alencon needle lace fichu. It has a 'turnover' design with the right side designed to be seen once the shawl is folded over. Attractive simple design with tiny flower heads scattered over the ground and a flower spray border. There is a join at centre back of the bottom layer to give shaping, this has a line of small flower heads to disguise the line.
It is unusual to find a fichu of this kind made from Alencon lace with a large area of plain net ground.
Measured flat width is 69 cms, narrowing to 36 cms. Length is 180 cms.
Excellent condition, probably unused.
