Dimensions:

W: 42cm (16.5")L: 215cm (84.6")

This is a rectangular Alencon needle lace shawl dating from the late 18th - early 19th Century. Very pretty design of posies with ribbon bows on a flower sprigged ground. Dark cream colour.

This comes with provenance. It came in  a box from Madame Hayward, court dressmaker, addressed to the Countess of Crewe, Curzon Street, London with a 19th Century sepia photograph of a corner of the shawl. I surmise that the shawl may been sent to Madame Hayward to match or inspire an outfit that had been commissioned.

There are several small holes to the fine net ground. In addition there are scattered pale brown age marks, apart from this good condition for age.
