18th C Lyon Silk Fragment - Philippe de Lasalle, 1780

SOLD

Code: 10170

Dimensions:

W: 36cm (14.2")L: 150cm (59.1")

This is a fragment of 18th century Lyon lampas silk with a design of a lamb with blue ribbon and roses, repeating with a garland of pink roses.

The lamb is woven with chenille thread, giving a matt, wool like texture.

This is attributed to Phillip de Lasalle and is similar to silks he designed for Versailles. It is reproduced in the catalogue Ancient Regime - First Empire Textile Art and the Toilette,  Greber Abbegg Stiftung 1989.

Condition reasonably good. Three bottom repeats strong, but top rose motif is fragile with holes and darns. This would need to be stabilised. One side cut, the other has selvedge. Colours generally faded. Reverse bright.

This is for study/ display only. Condition too fragile for interior design use.
