Code: 10150

Dimensions:

W: 29.5cm (11.6")L: 19cm (7.5")

This is a tiny miniature gentleman's shirt sewing sample, dating from around 1838. Beautifully detailed, it has minute gussets on shoulders, tiny triangular side flaps and small frill to front opening with embroidered heart motif.

Made from slightly different weights of ivory white linen with cotton lawn frill. Initials CWB embroidered in grey cotton.

Top of collar to hem measures 19cms, cuff to cuff laid flat measures 29.5cms

This is very similar to a sample piece in 'The National Society's Instructions on Needlework and Knitting' published in 1838. This was a system of teaching sewing skills to girls, enabling them to earn a living.

Excellent condition, would look lovely in a box frame.
