White Cotton Lace Up Boots circa 1820

White Cotton Lace Up Boots circa 1820

Code: 10169

SOLD

These are a pair of white cotton boots, possibly French, dating from around 1820. Hand sewn, they have a centre seam, rounded toe and flat leather sole. Size 4 written in one lining. Toe to heel measures 24 cms.  Height 11.5 cms.

These little boots have been  well worn. Centre seam on one boot has 2 cm split.  There is a small darned hole to one heel. They are a little grubby at heel and toe. Laces are replacements with small remnants of originals still in place.

Fascinatingly, because of the nature of the cotton fabric, you can almost see the shape of the foot in the boots!

A similar pair can be seen in  Giorgio Riello : A Foot in the Past ( OUP 2006)  figure 7.14
