This is a Honiton appliqué lace collar - hand made bobbin lace motifs on a machine net ground.
Neck measures 61 cms, back neck to edge 26 cms.
The motifs have been dotted in an irregular manner onto the collar. Some are of very high quality, including an oak leaf spray, two birds, a moth and a winged cherub, surrounded by stars. This last is very unusual for Honiton (which usually takes its motifs from nature) and may possibly have been intended for an ecclesiastical commission.The piece came from the collection of a lady with family ties to Honiton.
Pale ivory colour, good condition.
