This is a large triangular needlelace applique shawl, dating from around 1850 - 60. It has delicate needlelace applique on a fine machine net. Interesting design, reminiscent of a Kashmiri shawl, with a teardrop motif to centre back, floral border and allover flower sprig pattern. It drapes beautifully. Mid cream colour.
It measures 184 cms x 184 cms x 290 cms.
There is some fragility to top neck area with scattered small holes ( see last photograph). There is also the occasional small hole and darn in the body of the shawl, apart from this good condition and up to gentle wear.
