This is a length of handmade black Chantilly lace border. It has a charming design of a winged bird hovering over a garland of berries within a cartouche of flowers and leaves. Birds are a rare motif in Chantilly lace.
There is one neat repair along the line of the design (see photo 7), a few small pulls, apart from this good condition.
