A silk embroidered man's waistcoat dating from around 1780. Cotton lining. All over sprigged design with flower garlands and sprays to pockets and lower edge. Eleven flower embroidered buttons.
This is a remarkably fresh and bright example. Button holes tight. It may be unused.
There are a couple of tiny marks to the front embroidered silk, apart from that very clean. No underarm marks. It has a silk back, but is lined with a soft but sturdy cotton. This lining is a little grubby - it may have been stored inside out. There are panels approx 6 cm wide to each side, but these seem to have been added at the time of making - there is no sign of an alteration.
Chest measures 35.5 ins, length shoulder to bottom edge 29 ins.
